Pristine and bright pale straw in colour. The bouquet shows grapefruit, lime zest and Feijoa characters with subtle herbaceous notes. The palate is juicy and flavoursome with vibrant acidity and a mouth-watering finish. Not over the top, this Sauvignon is linear and beautifully fine.

Fiona Turner’s Tinpot Hut has gone from new kid on the block to an established favourite. Fiona has worked with Matt Thomson on many of the most successful wines made in Marlborough, and her skill shows through in these wines. The bulk of the grapes for come primarily from her own vineyard in Blind River in the Awatere, supplemented by quality fruit from growers closely managed by Fiona and Matt. The corrugated tinpot hut that gave its name to Fiona’s brand is an old mustering hut in the remote hills between the Wairau and Awatere Valleys. These huts were used as a base for musterers who were responsible for rounding up the sheep that had been in the hills from spring to autumn, and bringing them down to the low paddocks for the winter. Corrugated iron is a material that is synonymous with rural New Zealand as it was historically always used for woolsheds and roofing material for homesteads and for huts like Tinpot Hut.
