Pungent sherry. Orange oil, funky dried fruits, and sticky toffee pudding. A lot of aroma without much nose tickle. An undercurrent of malty caramel. Sweet, but not cloying. A lot of depth here. The palate shows orange marmalade. More funky dried fruit – prunes and apricots – with a layer of chocolate malt. Not as much depth here, but very well balanced and flavourful. Medium long. Orange crème popsicle. Slightly bitter – mostly in an orange peel kind of way. Mildly oaky. Fades with a hint of hazelnut and more orange peel.

Tamdhu distillery is a single malt Scotch Speyside whisky distillery, located in the town of Knockando in Banffshire, Scotland. Tamdhu comes from Gaelic for little dark hill. The distillery was founded in 1897 by a group of assemblers, wishing to engage in the production of their own whisky. It quickly passed on into the hands of Highland Distillers. The history of the distillery was fairly quiet, without changing owners, but still marked by a long dormancy between 1927 and 1947. Its production capacity was tripled between 1972 and 1975. The distillery has now 3 wash stills and 3 spirit stills. Unlike its neighbors the Tamdhu distillery has no roof-shaped pagoda above its malt furnaces. This is one of the last distilleries to malt all of its barley on the spot by a mechanical saladin. It was announced that as of April 2010, the Tamdhu Distillery, belonging to the Highland Distillers subsidiary of the Edrington Group, was being closed when the previous owners mothballed Tamdhu distillery in 2010, connoisseurs looked on with sadness. This unique Speyside Single Malt Scotch Whisky was prized for its almost indiscernible wisp of peat, counterbalanced with vanilla, fruits and spices. In 2013, Tamdhu officially announce that the stills run warm once more – embodying the ‘can-dhu-spirit’ of our founders. Lauter mash tuns are filled with water drawn directly from the Tamdhu spring. Warehouses team with quiet, methodical activity. And our strict wood policy insists we once again use only the finest sherry casks.
