Dark ruby in colour. The bouquet shows intense fruit such as wild blackberries and cassis. The palate is very powerful but with soft tannins, subtle yet complex, showing fresh redcurrant and cranberry from the Jaen, mellowed by bramble, sloe, and forest-floor notes that bring to mind mushrooms and sweet earth. A savoury/herbal note balances the fruit wonderfully on the finish.

Since 1893, Quinta das Maias has operated at the base of the Star Mountain, where they possess a clear focus on environmental sustainability and look to adopt a number of organic and bio-dynamic farming methods. MAIAS wine comes from the Quinta das Maias property, which is located at about 600 meters of altitude in the foothills of Serra da Estrela. The name derives from the yellow broom that covers the slopes of the mountain and here they are called 'Mayas' because they bloom in the month of May. The wines are characterized by the freshness of grapes from vines planted at altitude and by sandy granite-based soils.
