This beautiful estate rests on the Agulhas Plain near the southernmost tip of Africa in one of the most heralded and passionate winegrowing regions, Cape Agulhas (The Cape of Needles). Founded in 1999 by David Mostert and Geoff McIver, the estate’s 316 acres of vineyards are planted on the slopes of Ben Lomond Mountain in the Uilenkraal Valley, near Gansbaai (the shark-cage diving capital of the world), and within sight of the Indian and Atlantic Oceans. Its singular location at the meeting point of the oceans ensures that the vineyards are cooled by sea breezes, resulting in late-ripening, intensely flavoured fruit. The farm’s 18 different soil types produce intriguingly complex wines with flavours that differ markedly from one block to the next. The wine blocks sit at altitudes ranging from 165 to 360 feet above sea level. The overall combination of geography, geology, and climate results in terroir that is ideal for producing stellar wines of distinction.
