Deep purple in colour. The bouquet shows beautiful and intense ripeness of black fruits, with a seamless, soft and silky flow through the mid-palate. There is not just fruit, but obvious earthy and mineral characteristics, it brings texture, with a sappy concentration that we identify with old vines. A build into powerful tannins that remain refined, almost cloaked by the seductiveness of the fruit and the gently building structure. The name Fission was ultimately chosen to reference the textural and mineral characteristics we believe the volcanic soils bring.

Far Mountain was founded by winemakers Rodrigo Soto and his wife Mai Errazuriz three years ago. Having spent decades working for leading wineries across the Americas, the couple established this project with the belief that the best potential for wine in California lies in remote pockets of the Sonoma Valley mountains. With this philosophy in mind, they have sought out some exceptional vineyards. They are dry farmed, which allows the vines to thrive in the poor, fractured soils and results in a distinct saline character. This fruit is supplemented by a small parcel of thirty-year-old vines from Thornton vineyard, at the foot of Sonoma Mountain, which lends a precise acidity to the wine from the more ocean-influenced climate.
