Duval-Leroy Brut Reserve

A finely knit Champagne, this layers vibrant acidity and a lacy mousse with delicate notes of patisserie apple and pear, biscuit and ground ginger. This delivers a lot of fresh fruit through the lush feel of its bubbles, bringing scents of raspberry, plum and juicy pear up out on the palate. Providing a perfect balance between finesse and power, it draws out flavours of dark chocolate, cinnamon and roasted yellow figs, expressing its subtle, melt-in-the-mouth vinosity. A subtle smoky note appears on an ever-lasting finish.

In 1859, the vine-growing family of Duval joined the Champagne merchant family of Leroy, establishing the iconic Champagne house and style of Duval-Leroy. The winery remains a rare family-owned Champagne house, handed down for six generations. The only major Champagne house located in the prestigious Cote des Blancs for more than 150 years, Duval-Leroy cultivates around 500 acres with 35 percent situated in Premier Cru and Grand Cru villages. Duval-Leroy uses 40 percent fruit from their own estate, which is a scale rarely found in the Champagne region and a major asset to the house, guaranteeing quality and consistency. Winemaking begins in the vineyard, the saying goes, so it naturally follows that thoughtful, low-impact grape-growing practices are fundamental to any winery’s sustainability efforts. That’s certainly the case for Duval-Leroy, but the family-owned Champagne house doesn’t stop there. The winery’s commitment dates back more than two decades. Carol Duval-Leroy took over the family business when her husband, Jean Charles, passed way in 1991, and just three years later the winery had become the first Champagne house to receive the certification standard ISO 9002. In subsequent years, the winery built on that standard for quality assurance in production, and it now has a wide range of systems and programs in place that put it at the forefront of sustainability.
