The bouquet is both powerful and pretty with notes of fennel, purple flowers and blossom mingling with ripe, varietal purple fruits and black pepper. The oak is hardly evident which allows fruit and soil complexities to emerge with edges of rhubarb and red mulberry and savoury characters of dried herbs, game and spice. The palate opens with anise, black pepper, graphite and restrained dark cherries before it gives way to seductive mulberry, plum, liquorice and spice. It has great power, depth and length with very vibrant, gritty fruit tannins providing immense structure. Notes of anise and spice linger for a long time on the finish.

Since 1912 the Osborn family have tended vineyards in McLaren Vale, South Australia. Every vineyard has a personality which we encourage to flourish with minimal intervention in the vineyard and winery. Through time honoured techniques such as open fermentation, foot treading and basket pressing, this personality is allowed to shine. Harmony between environmental sustainability and wine industry practice is a strong commitment upheld at d'Arenberg, with the aim to pass on a sustainable business to the next generation. Today fourth generation family member, Chester, makes distinctive wines using traditional methods both in the vineyard and the winery.
