This is deep and intriguing, from the dark winy colour to the plummy, raisin-like fragrance. A fleeting sweetness, redolent of dried fruits and juicy prune notes, gives way to a dry, bitter finish. Medium to heavy in feel. Very easy drinking, especially with ice, and it's easy to imagine sipping this, well chilled, on a hot day, or in a wide variety of classic cocktails.

Punt e Mes literally means "point and a half" in Piedmontese and owes its name to a sudden raise of the stock market (naturally, of a point and a half) which greatly benefitted the Carpano distilleries, which then created the vermouth brand to commemorate the occasion. This baby brother of Carpano Formula Antica is vermouth as it should be. The formula was developed in 1870 in Antonino Carpano's bar in Piedmont, and the distinctive 15-herb recipe is still a family secret.
